The record player is broken. Every game the Detroit Tigers play seems to hae the same plot: strong pitching to go with painful hitting. The Tigers will try to change that when they meet the Texas Rangers for an afternoon game at Comerica Park today.

Monday's contest couldn't have gone much better from a pitching perspective, with Reese Olson thoroughly in control on the mound for Detroit and limiting Texas to just a lone run. But the Tigers' lineup couldn't keep any momentum going, as it stranded eight runs after three GIDPs.

Tuesday's lineup is a bit differerent for Detroit. Mark Canha and Colt Keith drew days off. Zach McKinstry will be hitting third, while Wenceel Pérez will be making his second major league start ever. He's batting sixth and playing right field.

Casey Mize will be taking the mound for the Tigers, opposing Jon Gray of the Rangers.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Detroit -- RHP Casey Mize -- The Tigers have won both Casey Mize's starts this season but he didn't receive credit for either. That's because he hasn't pitched particularly deep into games yet, going five innings once and 4-1/3 innings the other appearance. There's nothing that notable here yet. He allowed five hits in both games, and a couple of runs in each appearance. He's walked three and struck out six batters during that time.
  • Texas -- RHP Jon Gray -- He has made three starts for Texas, with nothing particularly notable about them either. He allowed five runs on seven hits in his 2024 debut, but just one earned run across the last two (totaling 8-2/3 innings). Texas was shut out 1-0 in his last appearance. He has 14 strikeouts.
