Police are looking for multiple suspects after one person was stabbed numerous times in an apartment in Willimantic early Monday.

Officers responded to an apartment on Vermont Drive around 5 a.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call reporting the stabbing, according to Lt. Charles Miller of the Willimantic Police Department.

The first officers on scene found a victim suffering from numerous stab wounds and provided first aid, Miller said in a statement. The victim was taken to an area hospital after medics arrived at the scene.

The victim’s condition has not been made clear.

According to Miller, the initial investigation by police suggests the individuals involved in the stabbing were known to each other and that it was a targeted attack. Miller said there were multiple witnesses and suspects involved and that the suspects took off before officers arrived.

“Multiple witnesses and suspects have been identified, but no one has been arrested or detained yet,” Miller said.

Police asked residents to avoid the area of Vermont Drive Monday morning as the investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information has been asked to call the Willimantic Police Department at 860-465-3135
