AUGUSTA, Ky. (WKRC) - A Northern Kentucky distillery is getting closer to having its own barrel storage facility or rickhouse.

The goal for owners of Augusta Distilling is to be an ultra-premium bourbon producer in Kentucky.

Construction is expected to be finished in May on the new facility.

Augusta distilling formed in 2018 and the first bottles of bourbon hit the shelves in 2020.

"When at full capacity nearing the end of 2025, we'll have capacity to put away about 14,000 barrels of Kentucky bourbon annually, which will all be stored in Bracken County, Kentucky," said Matt Groves, sales director for the distillery.

One barrel can yield anywhere from 150 to 200 bottles of bourbon.

Augusta Distilling is located in an old stagecoach parts manufacturing plant that dates back to 1883.

It produced buttons and fasteners for the stagecoach industry.

The distillery recently contributed to the effort to fix up the local ball field with the Reds Community Fund and Saint Elizabeth Healthcare.
