SAN ANTONIO - From the heart of the South Side - it's not just about cars. It's about family, craftsmanship, and the South Side spirit. A dad and daughter duo bonding over the love of lowriders. How their craftsmanship is carrying on more than just cars.

“My name is Genesis Duran, and this is my 1950 Chevy Coupe. You see the pinks, the purples, the red, the roses, the hearts - and it matches me.”

“So I think these cars carry a lot of what you carry in yourself as a person. Your car describes you as a person.”

“My dad got us into it. He was building his truck at around his age - his young ages, and we decided to become a part of it. He decided to get us our own vehicles, and now it's a big part of us. We build them together. We build them in our own backyard. So it's become something important to our family.”

“When I drive it on the streets, it's pretty cool because people will expect to see a man in the seat, but they'll see me, and they'll just be like, thumbs up. You hardly see women in the lowrider community. So whenever you do, the lowrider community, the men are always hyping you up or making you feel valued in this community. And I really appreciate it so much because it helps me want to do better for the women here in San Antonio.”

“It’s not just about building lowriders, but for this family it's about pride and unity.”
