Proud moment as Carol wins her first individual medal in Tipperary road championships

Carol Molloy, Fethard AC, who won an individual bronze at the County Masters on Sunday last.

The County Masters Road Championships were held on Sunday last in Clerihan and hosted by Clonmel AC.

Fethard AC’s Liam Meagher, who made his debut for the club on Sunday last and was congratulated afterwards by Owen Fanning, Chairperson of the Tipperary County Athletics Board

MEN’S RACE
The O/65 plus 3k for Men and women started at 12pm and our sole representative was Billy Prout, who ran a fine race, coming home in sixth place in a time of 14.10. It’s great to see Billy back racing competitively.

Next up was the Masters 6k for both Men and Women O/35 to O/60. Fethard AC had 13 runners in the longer race, with a large band of our very supportive volunteers and coaches John and Lorraine in attendance to support.

Our first athlete home in 13th place was the strong- running James Maher in a time of 21.55, which was just outside the medals in a strong category.

Next Fintan Rice finished in 14th position in an excellent time of 21.56. Fintan, like James, was battling for the medals in his category and while just missing out can nevertheless be pleased with a great performance on the day.

In 42nd place we had Kevin O’Meara in a time of 25.44, one in front of Liam Meagher, who was making his debut for the club and coming home in 26.13.

Then in 45th position we had Liam O’Sullivan clocking 27.04. What a fantastic first outing this was for Liam, who managed to bag himself the over 60 County bronze medal. Congratulations Liam.

Our chairman John Hurley was happy to get through this one carrying an injury and coming home in 26.59, with 47th PJ O’Halloran in 27.34.

WOMEN’S RACE
In the women’s race our first woman home in sixth place was Edel Roche in a very good time of 23.59. Unfortunately for Edel, the women’s over 40 section is so strong, with very little between the athletes, and Edel just missed out on a medal in a fantastic race.

In 15th place we had Paula Hendriksen, who should be really happy with her run when crossing the line in 25.49.

Next in 24th place we had Carol Molloy running a time of 27.57. Carol showed tremendous grit and determination as she sprinted to the finish and secured the over 35 bronze medal. It was a really proud moment for Carol and just reward for all the hard work she puts into her training.

In 30th position Marie Carroll can also be happy with her run as she crossed the line in 28.49.

We were all delighted to see Aine Doocey compete in this year’s Masters Championships and running 32.49. It was also great to see Siobhan Maher run in 33.56 and Mary Hurley in 36.18.

These were fantastic performances from all our athletes on Sunday last in what was one of the strongest Masters races in many years.
