DIGGING DEEPER: National statistics show hate crimes on the rise

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – The racial slur displayed over the weekend on a Rochester pedestrian bridge has the community talking. Law enforcement tells KTTC the investigation is ongoing; however, the term “hate crime” hasn’t been used by police. Still, the event puts the issue in the spotlight.

Last month, the FBI, through its Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, released hate crime data for 2022. The most recent national figures show a disturbing trend, with hate-based crimes on the rise across the country.
