Nebraska head basketball coach Fred Hoiberg was given a contract extension on Tuesday afternoon. The contract will run through the 2028-29 season and will pay Hoiberg $4.25 million next season, with annual increases.
Interim Athletic Director Dennis Leblanc believes that Hoiberg is the exact leader Nebraska is looking for as a basketball coach.
“I have had the opportunity to work closely with five men’s basketball head coaches in my four decades in Nebraska Athletics, and I am more confident than ever in the direction of our men’s basketball program. Coach Hoiberg is a great representative of the University of Nebraska, and our program has shown great progress and improvement over the past two seasons. Fred has shown that he is committed to leading a program that succeeds on the court, in the classroom and in the community. We look forward to watching him and our team play on Friday in the NCAA Tournament.”
Hoiberg is currently in the middle of his fifth season as the head coach of Nebraska. He currently holds a school record of 63-93 and an overall mark of 178-149.
The No. 8 Nebraska Cornhuskers (23-10) will face the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies (20-14) in the NCAA Tournament’s first round on Friday, March 22, at 5:50 p.m. Below are social media reactions to Fred Hoiberg’s extension.
