Man killed in Sarasota County crash after car hits light pole, FHP reports

A 34-year-old man was killed in a Gulf Gate Estates crash on Thursday after losing control of his car and crashing into a light pole, troopers said.

The man was traveling eastbound in a Ford SUV on Clark Road at around 7:10 a.m. when he lost control and traveled across the raised median into the westbound lanes of State Road 72. He continued in a northeast direction and traveled onto the curbed shoulder, colliding with a light pole, according to a crash report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The car continued northeast, and its left front collided with the signpost. Post-collision, the car became engulfed in flames.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Sarasota County EMS.

The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit will continue to investigate this crash.
