Boilermakers Come Up Short at Illinois

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 58 Purdue women's tennis dropped a 4-1 road match against No. 35 Illinois on Sunday.
 
At. No. 3, doubles pair Juana Larranaga/Ashlie Wilson defeated Illinois' Kasia Treiber/McKenna Schaefbauer 6-4. After an intense tiebreak at No. 2, Csilla Fodor/Kennedy Gibbs earned the doubles point for the Boilermakers with a 7-6(7) victory over Josie Frazier/Kida Ferrari. The win gave Purdue the 1-0 lead going into singles play.
 
The Fighting Illini played successfully in singles and earned the victory. When Illinois claimed the win, Kennedy Gibbs and Carmen Gallardo Guevara were still competing. At No. 1, Gallardo Guevara was in the third set of her battle against Megan Heuser, ending 6-0, 3-6, 4-3. Gibbs at No. 3 was also in the final set of her match against Violeta Martinez. Forced to abandon the match, the results remained at 5-7, 6-4, 0-2.

For the final regular season match, Purdue will travel to Bloomington, Ind. to face the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m.
