1,300 gallons of fuel spilled after rail car rolls into locomotive at Lakeland rail yard

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — About 1,300 gallons of fuel spilled from a train Tuesday at a rail yard in Lakeland, according to a pollution notice from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

A rail car rolled into a locomotive in the CSX Winston Yard, puncturing the fuel tank, according to the notice, which was reported by a CSX hazardous materials manager.

Some of the diesel fuel spilled into a drainage ditch in the rail yard, according to the notice. The rest of the fuel was removed from the punctured tank.

Crews were working to clean up the rest of the fuel that spilled into the rail yard.

No other details were immediately available.
