“Supernatural” fans rejoice — Jared Padalecki wants to reunite with Jensen Ackles … but it might take a while.
Padalecki, speaking to Collider, addressed the “Supernatural” reunion rumors head-on — and said he’s all-in.
“It’s not that I haven’t seriously considered doing it. My single answer is yes,” he told Collider. “It’s timing. It’s availability.”
“Supernatural” aired on the WB and the CW for 15 seasons (and 327 episodes) from 2005 to 2020.
On the series, Padalecki, 41, and Ackles, 46, played brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, who hunted demons, ghosts, monsters and other otherworldly creatures.
“Jensen and I feel so strongly about our show that we had for 15 years together that we don’t wanna just do it, just to do it,” Padalecki told Collider.
“We don’t wanna go, ‘Hey, I have two weeks off in June. Let’s go ahead and shoot 10 pages a day, just so we can have more content.'”
Padalecki now stars as Cordell Walker on the CW series “Walker,” a reboot of “Walker, Texas Ranger” that is now in its fourth season. He was in a car crash two years ago but recovered from his injuries before returning to the set of “Walker.”
Ackles plays Soldier Boy on Prime Video’s “The Boys” and had a seasonlong run on the ABC drama “Big Sky.”
“If and when ‘Supernatural’ comes back, it’s going to be a labor of love, and we’re gonna put every hour in to make sure that it’s as true to the canon and to the fandom and to the story and to the characters as possible,” Padalecki told Collider.
“So, my short answer is it’s not a consideration, the answer is yes,” he added. “I just don’t know when I’m available. I don’t know when he’s available.
“But again, my answer is yes.”
In the series finale, Dean was killed on a vampire hunt, while Sam’s life played out in a montage that showed him old and surrounded by loved ones as he passed away.
Padalecki was vague on how the brothers might return for another round of “Supernatural.”
“Honest to God, I don’t think about the medium in which it would air,” he said. “I think about the story that I care about. If Jensen and I talk about where we would like to see Sam and Dean appear on screens again, and we think, ‘Cool, we like this, and we like this arc, and we like this conclusion,’ then let’s do it.
“If they make it into a movie, great. If they make it into a limited series, great,” he added. “If they make it into a flip book that’s available on Amazon, great.
“But at this point in time, I feel so protective of ‘Supernatural’ that if the story’s fine, then I don’t care how it gets into the world.”
A prequel spinoff of “Supernatural,” “The Winchesters,” aired for one season on the CW (2022 -2023). Set in the 1970s, it followed Sam and Dean’s parents, Mary Campbell and John Winchester, who were played by Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger.
The series was narrated by Ackles as the couple’s future son, Dean Winchester — and Padalecki was initially upset that he wasn’t included in “The Winchesters.”
“Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter,” Padalecki tweeted to Ackles in June 2021. “I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”
When asked by one of his 2.9 million followers if his tweet was a joke, Padalecki responded: “No. It’s not. This is the first I’ve heard about it. I’m gutted.”
A little later, Padalecki indicated that he and Ackles had apparently soothed any wounds, “had a great talk, as we do often, and things are good,” he said on social media.
“The show is early in the process with miles to go. We’ve travelled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don’t stop us. Once brothers, always brothers,” he wrote, adding the hashtag #spnfamily.
Ackles responded minutes later, saying, “Love you @jarpad … Miss these talks. I forgot how much face time we always used to get. And I miss that too. I know you’re busy… as am I, but you’re still my brother. I miss you, pal.”
