Mets rained out for second day in a row, will face Tigers in Thursday doubleheader

Mets rain delay Citi Field
For the second day in a row, heavy rains around New York City have forced the Mets to postpone a scheduled game.

Inclement weather has postponed the Mets and the Detroit Tigers for a second day in a row, forcing the two teams to play a getaway doubleheader Thursday at Citi Field.

The Tigers took the first game of the series 5-0 in 10 innings on Monday. The second game of the series was postponed after a lengthy rain delay and the third was as well, with the Mets making the announcement Wednesday afternoon. The first game of the Citi Field doubleheader is scheduled for 12:10 p.m.. The second game will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first one.

Right-hander Adrian Houser is expected to make his Mets debut in the first game of the series. The former Milwaukee Brewers starter was acquired in a trade over the winter to bolster the starting pitching depth but the Mets think he can be more than just a back-end starter.

Right-hander Casey Mize is expected to oppose Houser. After nearly two years away from the field because of Tommy John surgery and back surgery, Mize is finally set to return.

Left-hander Jose Quintana is scheduled to make his second start of the season in the nightcap, facing left-hander Tarik Skubal.

It’s a single admission doubleheader. Tickets for Wednesday’s game will not be valid for the makeup games.
