LA County Health Officials Warn Public Of Possible Exposure To Measles. We Have The Locations

Los Angeles County health officials have learned of a confirmed case of measles in a person who traveled to a number of locations across the L.A. area between March 30 and April 1.

Measles cases have been on the rise in the U.S., causing concern for public health officials across the nation because of how contagious it can be. How contagious? A cough from someone infected by measles in a room can sicken 90% of unvaccinated people present.

Health officials are asking anyone at the following locations to check whether they've have been vaccinated against measles. Those who have not been immunized, or have not developed natural immunity because of previous exposure, may be at risk of developing measles within 21 days from the exposure date.

If you think you were exposed

Health officials also urge those with potential exposure to:

  • Contact and notify their health care provider as soon as possible if they are pregnant, an infant, have a weakened immune system and/or are no immunized, regardless of vaccination history.
  • Monitor themselves for illness with fever and/or an unexplained rash from 7 days to 21 days after their exposure
  • Stay at home, and avoid school, work and any large gatherings if symptoms develop.
  • Call a healthcare provider immediately if symptoms develop. Do not enter a health care facility before letting them know

Common symptoms for measles

  • High fever (higher than 101° F)
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red and watery eyes
  • Tiny white spots that may appear inside the mouth a couple days after symptoms begin.
  • Rash 3 to 5 days after other signs of illness.
