BEVERLY — More than 200 teens are scheduled to take part in the Greater Beverly YMCA’s annual Project Y day of service on Saturday, April 20.

The teens will be joined by 22 adults and 11 community partners to clean parks, remove trash, collect donated food and perform other acts of community service. The day will begin with a virtual kick-off video message from Beverly Y Executive Director Tim Flaherty and YMCA of the North Shore President and CEO Chris Lovasco.

Last year, Project Y volunteers removed 6,000 pounds of trash and debris from various project sites; collected 1,125 pounds of food from Shaw’s, Stop & Shop and Henry’s Market for Beverly Bootstraps; assisted in the cleaning of the Veterans Service Building; pruned and picked up trash at the city’s garden beds; cleaned and painted new Riley Rocks at Lynch Park; cleaned the median strip of Beverly Farms Garden so vegetables could be planted; and cleaned up at the city’s public parks.

“What an incredible effort by our teens, mentors, board and community,” Project Y chair Rosemarie Simeone said. “We are proud to partner with so many wonderful organizations to make a positive impact and help strengthen our community.”

The event supports Beverly Veterans Services, Riley ROCKS Foundation, Salem Sound Coastwatch, City of Beverly parks, Bootstraps, Build a Bed or a Bed for Every Child, and Friends of the Beverly Public Library. Sponsors include One Haul Junk Haul; Frontier Technology Inc.; Northshore Dentistry; Stop & Shop; Beverly Rotary; Townsend Energy & Insurance; Bay State Physical Therapy; and McClean Law.

The YMCA of the North Shore has more than 50,000 members in 26 communities and is the 37th largest YMCA out of 2,800 Y’s nationwide.
