WELL, ALMOST 40 YEARS TO THE DAY WHEN A CINCINNATI’S MOST ICONIC MEMORIALS WAS UNVEILED AT EDEN PARK WITH ONLY TWO OTHER VIETNAM MEMORIALS IN THE COUNTRY AT THE TIME, VIETNAM VETERAN EARL CARROLL DECIDED TO PUT TOGETHER A COMMITTEE TO BRING ONE HERE TO CINCINNATI. SO EARL KNOCKED ON DOORS, REACHED OUT TO LOCAL POLITICIANS, EVEN GOT THE SUPPORT OF BOB HOPE, THE FAMOUS COMEDIAN, TO MAKE THE MEMORIAL A REALITY. SO EAR

Almost 40 years ago, one of Cincinnati's most iconic memorials was unveiled at Eden Park.With only two other Vietnam Memorials in the country at the time, Vietnam Veteran Earl Corell decided to put together a committee to bring one to Cincinnati.Corell knocked on doors, reached out to local politicians and even got the support of Bob Hope to make the memorial a reality.Corell said even 40 years later, this memorial not only honors the past, but serves as a purpose f0r what is happening today."I just think we haven't learned off of Vietnam, and it's a shame because we lost 58,000 plus," Corell said. "I don't want to see another 58,000 plus lost. But, you know, we have our soldiers spread all over the world because we got to keep America free and keep other countries free. And freedom is the most important."Monday marks the official 40th anniversary of the dedication of the Vietnam Memorial at Eden Park.
