PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Scattered Friday morning showers taper off as Portland prepares for warm spring weather this weekend.

A few lingering rain showers will work their way through parts of the Portland-Vancouver area Friday morning. Skies will continue to clear as sunshine returns to the Pacific Northwest. Friday afternoon temperatures will warm into the mid to upper 60s along the Willamette Valley. This is the start of the warming weekend weather trend in western Oregon and Washington.

Severe weather is expected to threaten parts of eastern Oregon and western Idaho Friday & Saturday. A marginal risk for severe weather gives places like Burns, OR a one out of five chance of seeing large hail or damaging winds. The severe weather threat decreases after sunset, but returns on Saturday.

More sunshine and fewer clouds will help temperatures warm even more on Saturday around the Portland area. Much of the metro will get into the low to mid 70s Saturday. That’s the peak of the temperature roller coaster this week.

Building storm clouds will return over parts of the Cascades and south of the Willamette Valley on Saturday afternoon and evening. No severe weather is expected, but lightning could pose a risk to those outside. We’ll also track severe storms in central and eastern Oregon across the afternoon.

Even cooler and wetter weather is possible in the Portland-Vancouver metro area next week. Afternoon highs will likely sit below average with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. Another warming and drying trend keeps the roller coaster ride going through the end of next week.
