Mountaineers Sweep the Knights The Gold and Blue Nation Podcast

WVU fans can get out their brooms for a second consecutive weekend. West Virginia takes all three games from No. 17 UCF, as the Mountaineers earn a historic sweep on the diamond. WVU trailed in all three games, but that didn't stop Randy Mazey's crew, who still hold on to the top spot in the Big 12 Conference standings.     Hosts Ryan Decker and Kevin Redfern react to this weekend's series, detail the top performances and storylines from each game, bring you post-game reaction from the Mountaineers, and take an early look at the Big 12 postseason picture.

Randy Mazey’s WVU baseball team has won 11 of its last 15 games, has surged into the national rankings in almost every college baseball poll, and, following Tuesday’s win over Pitt in the Backyard Brawl, has now entered the conversation to host a regional.

According to D1Baseball.com, West Virginia (23-13, 11-4 Big 12) is now projected as the 16th national seed and final regional host in the field of 64. The Mountaineers last hosted a regional in 2019.

In the website’s latest projections, regional foe Virginia Tech is the second-seeded team in the Morgantown Region, joined by third-seeded Rutgers and fourth-seeded Wright State.

WVU is one of two Big12 teams projected regional hosts as of Wednesday. Oklahoma State is the other. In this scenario, the winner of the Morgantown Region would advance to face the winner of the College Station Region, hosted by No. 1 national seed Texas A&M.

A total of eight Big 12 teams are expected to make college baseball’s postseason tournament.

Baseball America, however, does not have WVU hosting a regional in its latest NCAA Tournament projections. That publication has the Mountaineers going to Charlottesville, Virginia, as part of No. 9 national seed Virginia’s home regional.

West Virginia hits the road this weekend to face Texas Tech, beginning Friday night. The Mountaineers’ next home game is on Friday, April 26, at the start of a three-game series against Baylor.
