WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Wichita Police Department has made an arrest in the fatal stabbing of 43-year-old Lonnie Hunter.

According to Wichita Police Department Public Information Officer Kris Gupilan, officers were dispatched a little before 1 a.m. on Sunday to the report of a stabbing north of the Lincoln Street Bridge.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Hunter with multiple stab wounds along the walking path just north of the Bridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gupilan said an investigation revealed a group of people were walking along the river when they encountered the suspect, described as a homeless man, and the fatal stabbing happened.

The WPD has arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree murder.

KSN does not identify suspects unless charges are filed in their case.

The Wichita Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
