Five-year-old boy dies by gunfire late Tuesday, believed to be accidental

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Police responded to calls of a shooting at a home in Southeast Kansas City late Tuesday night.
It happened near E. 51st Street, off I-435 and Eastwood Trafficway.
When they arrived, police found a five-year-old boy suffering from what they believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The child was rushed to Children’s Mercy where doctors say they succumbed to injuries, dying on the operating table.
There’s no word yet on how the child was able to secure the gun, if adults were home, or if any charges will be filed.
The shooting is under investigation.
