Two San Diego County pets recognized for wacky names

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — It’s always fun to see pet owners show off their creativity and have fun with naming their pets.

Two pets in San Diego County, a dog from Chula Vista named “Lulu the Conqueror” and a cat from San Diego named “Meownnaise,” are among the 30 finalists for Nationwide’s list of insured pets with the wackiest names.

“Lulu the Conqueror” is a chiweenie whose name is inspired for her fearlessness.

“’The Conqueror’ is the middle name we gave her because, although she is (smaller in stature)—less than 15 lbs.—she will have at it with our 60 lb. staffy mix and just pounce, grapple, roll around with, tackle and steal treats from her!” owner Miguel H. told Nationwide.

The owners of “Meownaise” went the pun route for their cat’s name.

“Our family has had a history of naming our pets after food, so I wanted to take it to the next level and include a pun,” owner Mike said about the mixed domestic shorthair. “We were pretty sure we wanted to use condiments as the base, so we were trying out names like Catsup (for Ketchup), Meowstard (Mustard), so on—and Meownnaise just stuck.”

The finalists are divided into three categories: dogs, cats and exotic pets. Exotic pets include a Macaw, guinea pig, snake, tortoise, mini pig, tegu lizard, ferrets and rabbits.

Voting for the contest ends on Friday. The winners for each category will be announced on Wednesday.
