Woman charged after badly injured dog found at bottom of cliff

Police in NSW have taken more than a year to lay charges on a 32-year-old woman, accusing her of causing the Australian Bulldog's death.

A woman has been charged after a dog was allegedly thrown off a cliff and abandoned. The animal was only discovered after a passersby heard yelping and spotted a cage at the bottom of a large drop.

Emergency services were called to the site at Mount Ousley near Wollongong before NSW Police and the SES were able to access the kennel and locate an injured Australian Bulldog inside. It was taken to a vet however was euthanised due to its condition.

The incident allegedly occurred overnight on January 22 last year, with police arresting a 32-year-old over a year later following an "extensive" investigation. Police have charged the woman with causing death of an animal. She has also been charged with torturing and beating an animal after the dog was allegedly found emaciated and in poor health.

She was given bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court next month.

In NSW, anyone found guilty of aggravated animal cruelty, an act which results in the death or serious injury of an animal, can face two years' imprisonment. Abandoning an animal is also punishable with six months' imprisonment.

Authorities had pleaded for anyone with dashcam video on Clive Bissell Drive from around the time to come forward, while police also shared a photo of the kennel that the dog was found in.
