CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Participants took part in the annual Matt Haverkamp Foundation’s “Matt’s Pursuit” 5K at Spring Grove Cemetery on Sunday morning.

The Matt Haverkamp Foundation started in 2005 to raise money for causes that were important to the late Matt Haverkamp.

Over the years, the foundation has been able to purchase 105 K9s and protective equipment worth over $1 million.

In 2023, the foundation says they assisted 11 police departments by funding 12 K9s and equipment totaling over $149,000.

Matt Haverkamp and his K9 partner Tibo were the first K9 officer team in Golf Manor. In 2005, Matt died in a car accident at the age of 29.

The annual race not only brings the community together but also raises funds to cover the cost of the dog, as well as their training and other necessary resources.

The 5K is the foundation’s largest annual fundraiser, featuring K9 demonstrations, a meet-and-greet, refreshments, door prizes, and awards for top race finishers.
