The driver, a 43-year-old from South Portland, Maine, was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital. The child was also transported to the hospital as a precaution, authorities said.
State police said before the crash, the pickup was approaching the tolls on the northbound side when the driver, suddenly changed lanes, then hit a concrete abutment next to a toll booth and went airborne before crashing and catching fire.
A toll attendant was inside an adjacent booth but was not hurt, state police said.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor but the crash remains under investigation, state police said.
