A child was hit by a vehicle on South Point Dr. in Dorchester on Tuesday morning, Boston Police said.

At 10:41 a.m., officers responded to reports of a child struck by a car at 22 South Point Dr., said Boston Police spokesperson John Boyle.

The child reportedly suffered “very minor injuries,” Boyle said.

BPD did not immediately give further information on how the child was struck and whether the driver is facing any charges Tuesday afternoon.

The incident follows several tragic pedestrian crashes this year, including incidents in which a man in a wheelchair was fatally hit by a cement truck in South Boston and a four-year-old was killed by a car in South Boston in just the last month.

Following the high-profile accidents, the Boston City Council took initial steps to consider lowering the speed limit from 25 mph to 20 mph to promote pedestrian safety in early April.

There have been 462 pedestrians hit by cars in Massachusetts so far this year, according to Massachusetts Department of Transportation data.
