Man found guilty in murders of BPD officer, man sentenced to life in prison

One of the men found guilty in the murders of a Baltimore police officer and another man was sentenced on Thursday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Travon Shaw’s sentence comes two years after the murders of Officer Keona Holley, who was shot while she sat in her patrol car in December 2021, and Justin Johnson.

“Today’s sentencing of Travon Shaw ensures that he will never be able to commit another ruthless act of violence in our city ever again,” Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates said in a news release. “Officer Keona Holley and Justin Johnson will never return home to their families, a fact that will remain with their loved ones for the rest of their lives. My heart goes out to them as they continue to grieve and work to heal. This should be a moment for all of us to reflect on the importance of keeping each other safe, including our police officers. My office will continue to hold violent offenders accountable in the courtroom in the name of justice for victims and their families. I want to thank ASA Kurt Bjorklund for securing this lengthy sentence, as well as the Baltimore Police Department for their partnership in bringing closure to these cases. Our men and women in uniform are sworn to protect and serve us, but they are also human and need our support and protection when doing this dangerous line of work.”

Shaw and Elliot Knox were both arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Holley and Johnson.

Knox was found guilty in early March for the murders. He faces life in prison when he’s sentenced.
