Northern York County Regional Police are investigating an allegation that a man tried to lure a Dover Area High School student into a pickup on Thursday morning, according to a news release.

The 14-year-old student told police that she was walking to school around 8:03 a.m. when the incident happened in the 2400 block of West Canal Road, the release states.

Both the pickup and the student were heading eastbound when the truck passed her. It pulled over onto the shoulder of the road in front of the Dover Township building and then parked in the municipal parking lot, police said.

Northern York County Regional Police are asking the public for help with identifying the pickup or the driver of this vehicle. A student said the driver yelled for her to come over to it while she was walking to school.

The driver yelled for the teenager to come over to the truck, but the student kept walking.

The man, who was by himself, then drove to the exit of the parking lot and was behind the teen, police said. The student reported that he called out to her again.

She walked into the lawn of the township property, and the driver left the area, heading east on West Canal Road.

Police say the man did not get out of the pickup during the incident.

The driver is about 30 to 50 years old and has short hair and a muscular build, the release states. He was wearing a white T-shirt. The teen told police the front bumper on the pickup was missing.
