CAL FIRE is having trouble getting insurance for one of its stations

TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. - California’s insurance crisis is so bad that CAL FIRE can’t even get coverage for some of its stations.

Specifically, it’s affecting the remodeling of the kitchen at the Ishi Wilderness Conservation Camp in Tehama County. Action News Now spoke to Senator Brian Dahle, who’s on the sub-committee that does funding for capital outlet projects for CAL FIRE.

“Were they able to get the California FAIR plan at least?” Hayley Watts asked.

“No, they weren’t able to fit in the FAIR plan; that’s the issue,” Dahle said. “So they’re going to go to the general fund to use general fund dollars to build it. They wanted to use bond funding, and that was the reason we saw it in our subcommittee. The Department of General Services could not obtain insurance.”

“How much money is from the general fund?” Watts asked.

“Several million dollars are needed to be put up,” Dahle said. “Some of these buildings are over 50 years old, and they’re dilapidated and need to come into modern technology.”
