Sadly, there’s no new episode of Yellowstone airing Paramount Network this Sunday, April 7, and there’s no mini marathon either. Instead, a Bar Rescue marathon will be running all day and night instead.

So when is Yellowstone‘s Season 5, Part 2 release date? Sadly, after all this time, we still don’t know. What we do know, however, is that Yellowstone is set to return at an unspecified date in November 2024 on Paramount Network. With such a massive delay and so many moving parts that need to align, that can always change, but a recent Puck report alleged that “the final episodes” of Part 2 are “already written” and filming is set to begin shortly, so here’s hoping the return to the ranch goes smoothly.

Why Did Kevin Costner Leave Yellowstone?

After Yellowstone Season 5, Part 1 wrapped filming, explosive reports suggested there was bad blood between Sheridan and Yellowstone star and executive producer Kevin Costner. In May 2023, fans heard that Costner would be leaving the Yellowstone franchise after Season 5, then subsequent reports claimed the actor wouldn’t return until he approved of the way John Dutton would be written off the show. In a June 2023 interview, Sheridan told The Hollywood Reporter that he was “disappointed” by Costner’s exit, but he assured fans, “I don’t do fuck-you car crashes… Whether [Dutton’s fate] inflates [Costner’s] ego or insults is collateral damage that I don’t factor in with regard to storytelling.”

So what will Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 look like for John Dutton and Kevin Costner? Heading into Yellowstone‘s final episodes, Costner’s level of involvement remains unclear. Per People, when asked if he will be receiving his salary for the second half of Season 5, the actor detailed struggles experienced while negotiating, saying, “I will probably go to court over it.” Only time will tell what Season 5, Part 2 has in store for the Dutton patriarch.

Specific plot details for 1944 or 2024 have yet to be released, but Variety reports we can expect 2024 to start airing after Yellowstone ends. The show will allegedly feature “new cast members and locations with some crossover characters as well,” and possibly Matthew McConaughey, who’s been rumored to star in a Yellowstone spinoff since April 2023.
