The Unicameral’s decision to advance LB 575, known as the Sports and Spaces Act, is a long-overdue move. The proposed law would require anyone using school bathrooms and locker rooms to use the facility designated by their biological sex. Similar restrictions are added to most school sports teams.
The measure effectively bans transgender and nonbinary youths from entering spaces or participating on teams when their gender identity differs from their biological sex.
As should happen.
With only a few days left in the session, it seems unlikely that the bill will get to a final vote, but getting it out of committee is a big step. It has languished in committee since its introduction last year.
Right on cue, OutNebraska, the advocacy group for the LGBTQ+ community, condemned the move saying, in part, “Trans youth shouldn’t be excluded from opportunities to learn confidence, self-respect and teamwork like everyone else. By excluding kids from sports, or not allowing them to continue using the school facilities they’ve been using, LB 575 sends the message that not everyone is welcome.”

Actually, it sends a more important message. Namely that your choices affect more people than just you.
Young girls should not have to share intimate quarters with biological males, regardless of how the male “identifies.” Science, which the left only trots out when it matches their narrative, shows biological males have distinct physiological advantages in sports.
It’s startling how all the advocates for women’s athletics who worked so hard to give girls a chance to compete are now willing to give those chances away.
LB 575 keeps a level playing field and should get full consideration.
