Another meet, another windy day on the track for Tekamah-Herman athletes.
But the Tiger boys had their best day yet at last week’s Logan View Invitational. The Tigers racked up 64 points to take fourth in the six-team meet, sparked by a four-medal day from senior Reece Williams. The Tiger girls trailed the field with 32 points, more than half of them coming from Emily Stansberry who medaled in three events.
Long a showcase for Bishop Neumann track athletes, the Logan View meet again saw the Cavalier girls run away with the meet title, literally. Neumann’s girls tallied 192 points easily outdistancing the runners-up from Fort Calhoun. The Pioneers scored 108 points, DC West was third with 91.5. Fort Calhoun held off a late Neumann charge to claim the boys title 158-150 over the Cavaliers.
Williams started his day in the field. A returning state qualifier in the triple jump, he took second in that event, sailing 39’ 2.75” on his last attempt to claim second place. He also was fifth in the long jump at 18’ 2.5”.

Over on the track, Williams won the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.96 seconds, a second and a half off the 53.13 clocking at last year’s district meet that earned him a spot in the state meet. He finished a long day by joining Issac Ruwe, Jessen Booth and Landon Burt to take second in the day’s last event, the 4x400-meter relay, with a time of 3:45.98. Running the anchor leg, Burt held off Fort Calhoun’s Tyler DeMilt to earn the Tigers second place in the race.
Freshman Camdan Chase brought home three medals from the Logan View meet. Chase cleared 5’6” to take third in the high jump. He ran sixth in the 200-meter dash at 26.12 seconds and joined Ruwe, Roger Wright and Burt to take fourth in the 4x100-meter relay, timed in 47.28 seconds.
Another freshman, Ryan Roche, was fifth in the 3,200-meter run, timed in 12:19.45. Roche, William Duvall, Christopher Smith and Kale King combined to run fourth in the 4x800 relay, coming in at 11:08.92.
Booth added third place points in both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter intermediates,timed in 16.86 seconds and 43.87 seconds respectively.
Smith an Ean Chase completed the Tiger scoring by tying for fifth in the high jump, clearing 5’ 4”.
Stansberry had the best finish of the day for the Tiger girls early in the day. She won first place in the high jump, where she is a returning state qualifier, by clearing an even five feet. She also ran third in the 200 with a time of 28.54 seconds. Stansberry also was around at the end, joining Kenzie Alexander, Ruby Booth and Isabella Roche to take fourth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:35.86.
Layla Pruess came home with a pair of sixth place finishes in the field events after going 14’ 1.75” in the long jump and 29’ 2.5” in the triple jump.
The Tiger girls picked up the rest of their scoring in the relays.
Alexander, Booth, Roche and Brooklynn Olson placed third in the 4x800 in 11:27.55. Addison Stansberry, Isabella Evasic, Sarina Redding and Neelei Walpole ran fourth in the 4x100 relay, timed in 57.49 seconds.
Both Tiger teams were set to venture to West Point last Friday for a make-up meet on the Cadet oval. On Tuesday, today, the Tigers host Archbishop Bergan, Bancroft-Rosalie, Logan View, Lyons-Decatur Northeast, Oakland-Craig, Scribner-Snyder, Walthill and Winnebago at the Tiger Invitational. Field events start at 1 p.m.
Tekamah-Herman is entered in the Fort Calhoun Invitational at 1:30 p.m. next Tuesday before Oakland-Craig hosts the largest meet of the year, the East Husker Conference Championships, on Saturday, April 27. Field events start at 9 a.m.
