David Oliver

Evening Anchor
Topeka, Kan.
David Oliver

David Oliver is beyond happy to be home in Kansas, and home at WIBW 13 NEWS.

David was born and raised in Wichita and attended both the University of Kansas and Wichita State University. David started his broadcast career in high school with an internship and part-time job at KAKE-TV in Wichita. It was June 1996 when David landed a highly sought-after WIBW-TV summer internship. That experience led to a full-time reporting job with 13 NEWS in November 1996. During his first 4-year journey with WIBW-TV, David also anchored weekend newscasts, and weeknight newscasts through November 2000.

After Topeka, David spent 3 years as a weeknight news anchor/reporter at KTVB-TV in Boise Idaho. From there, David traveled to Springfield Missouri for an award-winning 17-year tenure as weeknight anchor at KOLR-TV. Prior to his return to Kansas and 13 News, David served in a communications/public relations management position for one of the largest school districts in the Denver Colorado metro.

David’s journalism/reporting work has been honored by state press and broadcast associations in Kansas, Idaho & Missouri. David also earned a regional EMMY award for ‘Team Coverage’ reporting. A major broadcast project that David co-produced and co-hosted in Missouri was recognized with a prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award.

Returning home to WIBW-TV in September 2022 is one of the proudest moments of David’s career. “My journalism roots were firmly planted in Topeka, in the 13 newsroom on Menninger Hill, way back in 1996” says David. “I feel so fortunate to have been invited back to a place I love, to bring the news-of-the day to my fellow Kansans”.

David is the very proud father of two children, Britney and Dawson, who live in Missouri. When David isn’t in the field or on the anchor desk, he enjoys visiting his family in the Wichita area, traveling to new destinations, and trying his hand at new recipes in the kitchen.
