Iranian journalist Pouria Zeraati was discharged from hospital Tuesday as the Metropolitan Police announced that the three suspects linked to his stabbing are believed to have successfully fled the UK.

Zeraati, a correspondent for Iran International TV, was ambushed outside his home in Wimbledon by two men and stabbed repeatedly on Friday, as a third individual waited in a getaway car. The suspects later abandoned their vehicle and police were able to confirm that the trio made their way to Heathrow Airport where they escaped abroad.

Iran International said that it had been receiving “heavy threats” for the past 18 months. The London-based channel delivers independent news and commentary on Iran but has been labelled a terrorist organisation by the Tehran regime.

On the BBC Today last Saturday, a representative of the channel said that the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has been actively pursuing journalists and their relatives. Mehdi Hosseini Matin, the Charge d’affaires for the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UK, told the BBC that the country “deny any link” to the attack.

Zeraati thanked supporters via X and shared that he was recovering, having been discharged from hospital. He and his family are now under police protection.

The ongoing investigation, led by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, is working with international partners to pinpoint the assailants’ current whereabouts.
