MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - The Civil Air Patrol is holding an open house for children who are 12 or older and are interested in learning to fly a plane.

Commander Jeffrey Slocum of the Magic City Civil Air Patrol squadron said trained adults fly with the students to teach them basic maneuvers.

He said when they’re not learning about aviation, they study search and rescue and get exposure to military drills.

“A little best of both worlds— if they want to go for a civilian path in the future or if they want to look into the military, it sets them up as well,” said Slocum.

The open house is on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at AvFlight.

Newcomers can participate in three classes at no charge.
