Orange and White spring game live score updates, highlights

Tulane transfer Chris Brazzell goes for a 71-yard touchdown catch

Merklinger hits Chris Brazzell for a 71-yard touchdown. The Tulane transfer should be a major part of the receiver rotation in the fall.

Mike Matthews makes his mark with a 63-yard touchdown catch

There's the first major highlight for 5-star receiver Mike Matthews, who runs away from a defensive back for a 63-yard touchdown catch from Gaston Moore. PAT good.

It's halftime. The stats say Orange 14, White 14, though the offense makes up the white team. Nothing less important than a spring game scoreline.

Chas Nimrod 27-yard touchdown catch from Nico Iamaleava

Chas Nimrod catches a 27-yard touchdown from Nico Iamaleava as he's open downfield following a DeSean Bishop catch-and-run for 28 yards.

By the way, Omari Thomas hustled downfield to make the tackle on Bishop's gain. Pretty good hustle, and in a spring game.

Jake Merklinger "scores" on a scramble

Jake Merklinger sprints through the middle, runs past a clearly not trying to tackle the QB defender and is allowed to score. It's a 26-yard touchdown run on the scorecard. Defense definitely thought Merklinger was "down", but it counts anyway.

Dayton Sneed 13-yard touchdown catch is first score of the day

Dayton Sneed catches a WR screen, makes a defensive back miss and scores from 13 yards out. Gaston Moore has led the clear two best drives of the day so far, and he'll get credit for the TD pass.

Ayden Bussell injured

The redshirt freshman offensive lineman from Mt. Juliet comes off the field on his own power with an apparent upper-body issue.

End of the first quarter: Defense, defense, defense

Four drives have resulted in three punts and a turnover on downs. Not a lot to the Vols offense so far.

Three QBs in three possessions so far

The Vols have featured three quarterbacks on the first three drives. In order...

  1. Nico Iamaleava
  2. Gaston Moore
  3. Jake Merklinger

No points yet, though. Moore's unit drove into opposing territory but was stopped on downs. Dayton Sneed had a couple good catches in that drive.

Iamaleava is out for the fourth drive of the game.

Nico Iamaleava, first offensive group goes 3-and-out

Iamaleava takes a sack on the first drive and can't get the drive going otherwise. The offense is wearing all white, while the defense is wearing all orange.

Gaston Moore leads the second offensive group out after a punt.
