A student at Baldwinsville's C.W. Baker High School has been arrested for allegedly sending a fax posing as the principal that stated he was resigning.

The 17-year-old boy created fake school email accounts and used them to send a fax pretending to be the principal resigning from the school, according to Baldwinsville Police Chief Michael W. Lefancheck.

On March 7, the teen allegedly created two fake school staff email accounts and attempted to get another student in trouble and get personal information about another student. School staff recognized that the email accounts were fraudulent and no information was given, Lefancheck said.

Thirteen days later, the teen allegedly sent the fax pretending to be the principal. He was caught after police realized the teen put his own cell number on the cover sheet of the fax, according to Lefancheck.

The suspect was arrested March 12 and charged with one count of criminal impersonation in the second degree for the emails. On March 27, he was charged with a second count of criminal impersonation for the fax.

Lefancheck confirmed the teen was released to his parents and the cases have been referred to family court.
