Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Davenport Police responded to the 1900 block of West 4th Street for a report of an assault.

Police allege Mendez Gomez stabbed a victim “several times in the chest without justification with the intent to cause the death of the victim,” according to affidavits.

The victim suffered “serious life threatening injuries” as a result, affidavits say.

In affidavits, police say witnesses heard a disturbance from inside the residence around the time of the assault.

Surveillance footage indicated the victim and Mendez Gomez were the only occupants of the residence at the time of the assault, affidavits show.

Mendez Gomez is set for a preliminary hearing April 19 in Scott County Court.
