Eileen Wirtz of Carroll, formerly of Davenport

Eileen Wirtz, 91 of Carroll and formerly of Davenport, died Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at The Vistas at Bettendorf in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church prior to the funeral service.

Eileen Wirtz, age 91, passed away Tuesday, the 16th of April at Vista Healthcare (formerly Iowa Masonic Health Facilities) in Bettendorf, Iowa.  Eileen Clara Besch, the daughter of Frank and Bernice (Simmons) Besch was born October 27th, 1932 in West Bend, Iowa. She married her high school sweetheart H. Allen Wirtz on August 29, 1953 in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Eileen loved her family.  She was a pastor’s wife and a homemaker.  In earlier years she worked at Folwell’s Cards & Gifts in Davenport, wrapping many gifts perfectly.  She was a deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church in Davenport Iowa.  After moving to Carroll, she volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce and at St. Anthony’s hospital in Carroll.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll.

Eileen enjoyed shopping, traveling, cooking, baking, and hosting social activities.  She was very caring and loving, donating to many causes. She loved her children dearly, was a wonderful and of course perfect grandmother.  She was known for her cookies and many boxes were sent to Ohio over the years.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter Vicki McGowan, Moline, IL; son Harvey Allen (Nancy) Wirtz II, Glendale Heights, IL; grandchildren Melissa McGowan, Debbie Ann McGowan, Luther (Emily) Wirtz, Brendyn Wirtz, Sydney Wirtz; great grandchildren Olivia, Sydney Ann, Manuel, Brooklyn, and Flora; great great grandchildren Mikayla, Nyla and Marayah; sister JoAnn Reed of Mankato, MN and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Dr. H. Allen Wirtz, daughter Deborah Davis, brother Kenny Besch and sister Ellen McCullough.
