Seventh-inning rally helps Ida record first baseball win of season

ERIE – Ida’s baseball team was off to a rough start.

The Blue Streaks dropped their first four games of the season.

It looked like they might suffer another loss Monday, trailing Erie Mason 4-3 entering the final inning.

Ida exploded for five runs in the seventh inning to pull out an 8-5 win, then made winning look easy in taking the second game 10-0.

“We were due for one’ Ida coach Jimmy McMonagle said. “We’ve been trying to get it going.

“We’ve played some good teams. We’ve played decent, but we haven’t got anything going offensively.”

The winning rally started innocently with an error before a stolen base and an RBI single by AJ Schrader tied the score.

Schrader then stole second and third before coming home on a single by Jaxon Millican. A two-run single by Josh Johnson and a sacrifice fly by Noah Adkins capped the uprising.

McMonagle wasn’t about to let Ida’s first taste of victory in 2024 slip away. He brought his best pitcher – Millican – in to get the final outs.

Owen Snyder and Adkins combined on a two-hitter.
