A man was found dead in a garage after crashing a motorized scooter into a parked car early Tuesday morning.

According to a Los Angeles Police Department release, the scooter driver was riding on a residential street near Beloit and Missouri avenues in West Los Angeles just after midnight when the collision occurred.

“The victim was riding the scooter and crashed into the back of an unoccupied vehicle,” LAPD said, adding that the car was legally parked on the street along the curb. “The victim sustained a significant injury from the crash.”

After being injured, the man “tried to seek help” but was unable to. He eventually made his way to a nearby apartment building’s parking garage where he collapsed, police said.

His body was found later that morning by an unknown citizen who alerted authorities; the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and began rendering medical aid to the victim, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, LAPD confirmed.

The man’s identity has not yet been released.

Investigators are looking into whether mechanical failure was a factor in the crash or if drugs and/or alcohol played a role.  A toxicology examination is pending.
