LAKE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A new county commissioner has been appointed for the previously vacant District 5 seat in Lake County.

During a special meeting on Wednesday, the Lake County Board of Commissioners voted to appoint Michael Seroczynski to as the commissioner for the district, which represents Elk, Sauble and Sweetwater townships.

The commission seas was vacated due to the death of Donald Arquette, who had served as commissioner since 2019.

"We had several good candidates," said Commission Chairperson Howard Lodholtz.

"Mike’s professional background and commitment to his community will make him an excellent commissioner," Lodholtz said. "He’s a proven leader, and we’re all looking forward to working with him."

Seroczynski's term runs through Dec. 31, 2024.

At this time Seroczynski intends to run for reelection in November.
