(Des Moines, IA) – The early first two innings of the ballgame went in favor of the Iowa Cubs as they went on to gain an early 3-0 lead after the first two innings. That run helped to push a 4-3 victory for the Cubs to take the second straight game.
In the first inning, Patrick Wisdom was able to get on base and was brought in home by a home run of Matt Mervis who helped to push a 2-0 lead to end the first. Wisdom came back to help the Cubbies once again after hitting a single to score Jake Slaughter and take a 3-0 lead. The Saints were able to take back another run by relying on DaShawn Keirsey Jr. to pump out a two-run homer to bring the Saints within one. Chase Strumpf was able to push the Cubs to a win while hitting a single to score Alex Isola to eventually win 4-3 over the Saints.
Leading in the game for the Cubs was Jake Slaughter who went 3-4 while scoring a run. Patrick Wisdom and Alexander Canario each had two hits while Wisdom earned an RBI. Matt Mervis was also essential in the Cubs’ win while going 1-4 at the plate and earning two RBIs.
With the win on the day was Porter Hodge who pitched in one inning while walking three batters and had one strikeout. With the save on the day was Colten Brewer who pitched in two innings and earned three strikeouts to help the Cubs earn a victory.
The Iowa Cubs will return to action tomorrow against the Saints at 2:00 p.m.
