There are a lot of you considering driving for Uber and Lyft. For many of us, when we sit in the back seat, we know what we’re paying, but we don’t know what the driver is making. Watch the story above as we gathered our team of reports from Boston to Omaha to Birmingham to find out.Want to know more about what Uber drivers make?The money you make is based on the ride fares plus promotions plus tips. Fares depend on what city you’re driving in, the time the trip takes and the distance of the trip. Promotions can include things like surge pricing…when demand increases, the more money you take home. When a rider tips, the drivers can take 100% of that tip home. In a recent report, Uber says drivers make an average of $33 for each hour they’re actively driving. It is made up of the time and distance to the pickup and to complete the ride. Also, the number of riders and drivers on the road and how busy the area is. Lyft says, drivers will always earn 70% or more of the rides every week. The 30% are fees that cover things like commercial insurance and taxes. If your earnings are below 70% when the week is over, Lyft will make up the adjustment.
