There's a new top cop in Springfield Township.The Springfield Township Board of Trustees has appointed Chris Niehaus as the new chief of police for the Springfield Township Police Department.A 25-year veteran of the department, Niehaus began his career as a Springfield Township patrol officer and drug investigator and is a two-time Officer of the Year recipient, city officials say.In 2008, Niehaus was promoted to Sergeant and served as a shift supervisor and Commander of the Drug Abuse Reduction Task Force for four years. He also oversaw the department's IMPACT unit from 2013-15 and Criminal Investigation Division from 2015-16. Niehaus earned a promotion to Lieutenant in 2016 before being promoted to captain in 2021."Chief Niehaus is a committed leader who continuously strives for professional development," the city wrote in a press release. "Chief Niehaus is a strong advocate for community-oriented policing. He actively participates in fostering positive relationships between the police department and the community it serves, while demonstrating his dedication to regional collaboration by serving on the Executive Board for the Hamilton County Police Association. He plays a vital role in overseeing county-wide units, including the SWAT Team, Dive Team, and Honor Guard. The Springfield Township Board of Trustees has appointed Chris Niehaus as the new chief of police for the Springfield Township Police Department.
