Five area high school teams – all private schools in Dothan – advanced to AHSAA State Tournaments following sectional play held early this week.
The Providence Christian and Northside Methodist boys teams finished first and second at the Class 1A/3A Section 1 Tournament at the Mobile Tennis Center to qualify for the 1A-3A State Meet on April 25-26, also at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Providence Christian girls finished runner-up at the same section meet to qualify for the state meet on the same days and same venue.
Both the Houston Academy boys and girls teams qualified for the Class 4A/5A state meet after the Raider boys won the 4A/5A Section 3 tourney and the girls finished second during action at the 17 Springs Tennis Center in Millbrook on Monday and Tuesday.
The Houston Academy teams play at the state meet next Monday and Tuesday at the Mobile Tennis Center.

Both Enterprise and Dothan tennis teams failed to qualify for state during the 7A, Section 2 meet in Montgomery on Wednesday. The Enterprise boys finished third behind Montgomery Academy and Auburn and the girls team placed fifth. Both Dothan teams finished in sixth place.
For the Enterprise boys, Garrett Nelson was the runner-up at No. 2 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Tripp Rascoe and Julian Gunter also finished runner-up. Four other singles players reached the semifinals for the EHS boys — Graham Andress (No. 1), Gunter (No. 3), Rascoe (No. 4) and Roger Stockton (No. 5).
Two Enterprise girls singles players and one doubles team reached the semifinals. They were Riley Stewart (No. 1) and Raedyn Weems (No. 6) plus the No. 3 doubles team of Weems and Emma Gann.
Dothan boys had two individuals reach the semifinals – seventh grader Gavin Danzie at No.1 singles and John Sherer at No. 5 singles – plus the No. 2 doubles teams of Ethan Peel and James Howell. The DHS girls had Adeline Nichols reach the semifinals at No. 5 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Shrea Patel and Mary Selwyn Nichols also reached the semis.
