One man found dead inside Mead home

Spokane County deputies investigating a 'violent altercation' that led to the death of one man.

MEAD, Wash. — One man died at a home overnight in Mead with reported signs of a struggle.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), deputies responded to callers reporting yelling, loud bangs and possible shots in a home just before 2 a.m. on Friday night. Deputies found one man dead at the house, who is believed to be the homeowner.

Hospital staff called deputies during the investigation and told them about a woman who arrived with non-life-threatening stab wounds. Deputies contacted the injured woman. During the investigation, they found out both the dead man and injured woman knew each other.

A girl who was sleeping inside the home ran away and was confirmed by police to be uninjured during the incident.

SCSO believes this was not a random incident, and said there is no further threat to the neighborhood as of Saturday afternoon. SCSO, alongside the Spokane Police Department K9 Unit, looked for a potential suspect but were unsuccessful.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office will release the name of the man, alongside his cause and matter of death at a later time.
