Here comes the heat: Upper 90s for sure; could we see 100 degrees in Phoenix?

We'll see a gradual increase in the temperatures as we approach the weekend.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A ridge of high pressure has pushed the main jet stream well to the north of Arizona and and is allowing us to see warmer temperatures.

While we won’t see a dramatic daily increase of the next several days, we will probably be in the mid-90s the rest of this week and the upper-90s for the weekend.

And, yes, we could make a run at 100 degrees, Monday being the most likely day to get there in the seven-day forecast. The average first 100 over the past 20 years for Phoenix is Apr. 30. For the entire historic record in Phoenix, since 1895, the first 100 has averaged May 11. So the 100s are definitely coming earlier these days.

In the meantime, an Ozone High Pollution Advisory is out for Wednesday across central Arizona, including metro Phoenix. With all the sunshine and warm temperatures, ozone could reach the unhealthy level in the atmosphere. We’re likely to see a few more days with the Ozone Advisory the rest of this week.

Also, as we tread towards 100, the heat risk will be in the moderate range. Yes, we’re used to a lot hotter temps but this is the time of year heat issues can creep up on us.
