Southeast Michigan residents are set to see warm temperatures and chances for rain this week, the National Weather Service said.

The work week kicks off Monday with highs expected to top out around near 70 degrees under sunny skies, according to NWS Detroit.

"Right now, high temperatures are normally in the upper 50s. We've got highs for today in the upper 60s," said Kevin Kacan, a meteorologist at the weather service.

He added temperatures are above normal for mid-April throughout the week.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring precipitation with temperatures in the 60s and lows near 50.

The forecast also calls for thunderstorms on Wednesday, when new rainfall amounts of at least half an inch expected, the weather service said.

Thursday should be cloudy with temperatures in the 60s.

Clearer skies are forecast for Friday, when the mercury again rises into the low 60s.
