Former Ankeny doctor convicted of sex abuse pleads guilty to enhanced charges
STREET IN BOUTON WELL, NEW AT NOON. A FORMER IOWA DOCTOR CONVICTED OF SEX ABUSE IS PLEADING GUILTY TO ENHANCED CHARGES. CHARGES STEMMING FROM ANOTHER CASE DECADES AGO. KCCI ALYSSA GOMEZ IS JUST BACK FROM THE POLK COUNTY COURTHOUSE AND ALYSSA. THIS MEANS LYNN LINDEMANN WILL SPEND EVEN MORE TIME IN PRISON. THAT’S RIGHT LAURA, THOSE ENHANCED CHARGES STEM FROM A CASE THAT DATES BACK TO 1976, WHEN LINDEMANN WAS CONVICTED OF LASCIVIOUS ACTS WITH THE CHILD NOW AT THAT TIME, LINDEMANN WAS OFFERED A DEFERRED JUDGMENT, WHICH MEANS IF HE FOLLOWED PROBATION GUIDELINES SET BY THE COURT, HE WOULD NOT HAVE TO SERVE TIME FOR THAT CONVICTION. BUT THOSE GUIDELINES WERE BROKEN WHEN LINDEMANN WAS FOUND GUILTY OF SECOND DEGREE SEXUAL ASSAULT IN FEBRUARY. THAT LED TO HIS PLEA HEARING THIS MORNING, AND BEFORE ENTERING HIS PLEA, JUDGE DAVID NELMARK EXPLAINED HOW THESE ENHANCED CHARGES WILL IMPACT LINDEMANN’S SENTENCE. COURT’S UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THAT SENTENCING ENHANCEMENT RESULTING FROM SUCH A PLEA WOULD INCREASE THE MAXIMUM PERIOD OF INCARCERATION FOR YOUR CURRENT CHARGES FROM A TERME OF UP TO 25 YEARS TO UP TO 50 YEARS, AND THAT YOUR MANDATORY MINIMUM WOULD INCREASE FROM 17.5 YEARS TO 42.5 YEARS. A former Iowa doctor convicted of sex abuse is pleading guilty to enhanced charges stemming from another case decades ago. Those enhanced charges stem from a case that dates back to 1976 when Lynn Lindaman was convicted of lascivious acts with a child.Lindaman was offered a deferred judgment at that time, meaning he would not have to serve time for that conviction if he followed probation guidelines set by the court. Those guidelines were broken when Lindaman was found guilty of second-degree sexual assault in February. The mandatory minimum for Lindaman's sentencing will increase from 17.5 years to 42.5 years as a result of the guilty plea.Lindaman's sentencing is set for April 26. At that time, the court will also hear the defense's motion for a new trial.
