Suspect charged with murder in shooting death of woman in Hattiesburg, police say

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - A murder charge has been filed against a man after a woman was found shot on a sidewalk in Hattiesburg during the early morning hours Wednesday.

According to Forrest County Detention Center’s online jail records, 42-year-old Julio Cesar Pineda has been charged with murder.

The Hattiesburg Police Department confirmed that Pineda was in custody after determining he was a person of interest in the initial stages of the death investigation.

Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem identified the victim as 29-year-old Josie Windham.

HPD Public Information Officer Tate Rutland said around 3:10 a.m., an officer patrolling the area saw Windham lying on the sidewalk near an apartment complex in the 2300 block of West Seventh Street. Windham was pronounced dead at the scene.
