Police to conduct DUI checkpoint in Elk Grove

(FOX40.COM) — The Elk Grove Police Department announced it will conduct a sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint on Friday.

The checkpoint will be conducted from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. at an undisclosed location within city limits.

“The checkpoint will focus on removing impaired drivers, as well as unlicensed drivers from the roadways,” police said in a news release. “Educational materials covering the dangers of driving under the influence will also be handed out to motorists.”

Why does California law enforcement announce DUI checkpoints?

Funding for the checkpoint is provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, according to police.

For those who see impaired drivers on the road, police urge the public to call 911 or the department’s non-emergency line at 916-714-5111.
